Today the babies and I enjoyed a day with Daddy. Andy took the day off of work, and this morning we headed to the Children’s Museum for some family fun. Apparently everybody else in Indianapolis had the same idea; it took us forever to wait in traffic, park in the garage, and get inside. Despite the crowds we had a great time. It was Henry and Eleanor’s first time there, and there was so much for them to do and see. We peered at fish, scooped up fake rocks, watched the balls go around a Rube Goldberg machine, drove a race car, poked at pretend flowers, scooped up sand, splashed in water, snuck a peek at the Batmobile, and went down the big story-tall slide that the museum constructs every December. We purchased a yearly family membership, so we’ll definitely be back for more fun.
After the museum we ate lunch at O’Charley’s, courtesy of a gift certificate from family friends. A group of three older couples arrived and sat at the table next to us. Eleanor pointed at them and said “Grandma! Grandpa!” They were all a bit older than her grandparents, but we laughed at her guessing the correct generation. The ladies smiled at the babies throughout lunch, and as we were leaving, the group had to fuss over them. “What a cute little girl!” one gentleman told Andy as he held Eleanor; “The blue in his jacket really brings out his big blue eyes,” another told Henry and I.
After naptime we played out on the driveway for a while, taking advantage of the sunshine and not-as-cold-as-it-usually-is-in-December weather. The babies rode on their toy cars, Henry pointed out all the airplanes that flew overhead, and Eleanor drug big sticks across the yard. We continued playtime inside, where Henry and Eleanor wrestled with Daddy.
Tonight we did a video chat with Grandma and Grandpa. It was pretty entertaining. At first my mom couldn’t get her video to work; at one point a random picture of a waterfall appeared on our screens (huh?). We finally got things working, and Henry waved at Grandma and said “Hello!” while Eleanor kept leaning in towards the screen to give Grandma and Grandpa kisses.
Instead of a witty ending to this post, here’s another “our day set to music” video for you to enjoy:
